How to set up and use email with Loopia

This article explains how to create an email address with Loopia and how to read and send email using either an email client (Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, iPhone, Android) or Loopia Webmail. It also covers the difference between IMAP and POP3.

Create an email account

You create email accounts in the Loopia Customer Zone. Click Create an email address on the front page, then choose one of the options on the next page:

  • Create an email address — creates a full mailbox you can send and receive from. Choose this option if you want to add the account to an email client such as Outlook, Apple Mail, iPhone or iPad.
  • Create an email alias to forward emails to for example Gmail or Hotmail — creates a forwarding address only. Incoming email is forwarded to an existing address (for example Gmail or Hotmail). When you reply, the recipient will see the forwarding address (Gmail, Hotmail, etc.) as the sender, not your domain.

IMAP

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is the recommended protocol if you read your email on more than one device. With IMAP, your messages and folders stay on the Loopia mail server and are read directly from there, so everything stays in sync across your computer, phone and webmail.

To connect with IMAP, your email client needs:

  • IMAP server: mailcluster.loopia.se
  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: your email password

POP3

POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) downloads messages from the server to a single computer and, by default, removes them from the server afterwards. This means the messages are only available on the device that downloaded them. POP3 is useful if you want to keep a local copy and free up server space, but it is not recommended if you read your email from several devices.

To connect with POP3, your email client needs:

  • POP3 server: mailcluster.loopia.se
  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: your email password
