How to set up Loopia email on Android (Gmail app)

This guide shows how to add a Loopia email address to the Gmail app on an Android phone or tablet using IMAP or POP3. Most Android manufacturers also ship their own mail apps with slightly different layouts, but the Loopia server settings at the bottom of this article work in any standards-compliant Android email app. We recommend IMAP on mobile devices — read more about the differences between POP3 and IMAP.

Set up a new account with IMAP

IMAP keeps your messages on Loopia’s server and synchronises them between every device you sign in from. It’s the recommended choice for phones and tablets.

  1. Open the Gmail app. If it’s the first time you launch the app, an Add Account wizard appears automatically. Otherwise, tap the menu at the top left, scroll to the bottom and choose Settings > Add Account.
  2. On the Set up email screen, select Other.
  3. Enter your full email address and tap Manual setup.
  4. Choose Personal (IMAP).
  5. Enter your password and tap Next.
  6. On the Incoming server settings screen, the username (your full email address) and password should already be filled in. Change the Server field to mailcluster.loopia.se and tap Next.
  7. On the Outgoing server settings (SMTP) screen, set the SMTP server to mailcluster.loopia.se. The username and password are the same as for the incoming server (your full email address and its password). Tap Next.
  8. Choose your Account options: how often the app should check for new mail, whether to send notifications, whether to sync this account, and whether to download attachments automatically over Wi-Fi. Tap Next.
  9. Give the account a name (used internally by the app) and set the sender name shown on outgoing messages — usually your first and last name. Tap Next to finish.

Your Loopia email account is now ready to use in the Gmail app.

Set up a new account with POP3

Use POP3 only if you read mail from a single device. POP3 downloads messages to that device and (by default) removes them from the server.

  1. Open the Gmail app. If it’s the first time you launch the app, an Add Account wizard appears automatically. Otherwise, tap the menu at the top left and choose Settings > Add Account.
  2. Enter your email address and password, then tap Manual setup.
  3. Choose Personal (POP3).
  4. Enter your password and tap Next.
  5. On the Incoming server settings screen, the username and password should already be filled in. Because POP3 downloads messages from the server, you can also choose how long copies should remain on the server. Set the Server to mailcluster.loopia.se and tap Next.
  6. On the Outgoing server settings (SMTP) screen, set the SMTP server to mailcluster.loopia.se. Username and password are the same as for the incoming server. Tap Next.
  7. Choose your Account options: how often to check for new mail, notifications and sync. Tap Next.
  8. Name the account, set the sender name, and tap Next to finish.

Settings for other Android email apps

If you use a different email app on Android (such as the Samsung Email app or Outlook), enter the same Loopia server settings shown below. If the app asks for specific port numbers, use these:

  • Incoming mail server: mailcluster.loopia.se
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mailcluster.loopia.se
  • Incoming port (POP3, STARTTLS or no encryption): 110
  • Incoming port (POP3, SSL/TLS): 995
  • Incoming port (IMAP, STARTTLS or no encryption): 143
  • Incoming port (IMAP, SSL/TLS): 993
  • Outgoing port (STARTTLS or no encryption): 587
  • Outgoing port (SSL/TLS): 465

The outgoing server requires authentication. Use the same credentials as the incoming server — your full email address as the username and the password for that mailbox.
