This guide shows how to set up a Loopia email account in Apple Mail on macOS Big Sur (released by Apple in November 2020), including the IMAP and SMTP server settings you need when the automatic configuration fails.
Before you begin
Make sure you have your Loopia email address and the matching password ready. If you do not remember the password, you can change it in the Loopia Customer Zone.
Step 1: Open Apple Mail
Launch the Mail application in one of the following ways:
- Click the Mail icon in the Dock.
- Open Launchpad from the Dock and click Mail.
- Press Cmd + Space to open Spotlight (the magnifying glass in the top-right corner of the desktop), type Mail, and press Return.
Step 2: Start adding a new account
In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Mail and then select Add Account…
In the dialog that appears, choose Other Mail Account… at the bottom of the list and click Continue.
Step 3: Enter your name, email address and password
Fill in the following fields:
- Name – the name recipients will see when you send mail.
- Email Address – your full Loopia email address.
- Password – the password for that mailbox.
Click Sign In.
Step 4: Enter the Loopia server settings manually
Apple Mail will report that it could not verify the account name or password. This is expected – you now need to enter the server settings manually:
- Email Address: your full email address
- User Name: your full email address
- Password: the password for that mailbox
- Account Type: IMAP (recommended) or POP3
- Incoming Mail Server: mailcluster.loopia.se
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mailcluster.loopia.se
Click Sign In to continue.
Step 5: Choose which apps to sync
In the final dialog, leave the Mail checkbox ticked and untick Notes (unless you specifically want your notes stored on the Loopia mail server). Click Done.
Apple Mail will now download your messages and you can start sending and receiving email through your Loopia account.
