Moving your website and email to Loopia web hosting is straightforward as long as you prepare your new Customer Zone account before pointing the domain to our name servers. This guide walks through the steps to switch web hosting smoothly so your site and email stay online during the transfer.
Plan the move with your current provider
For the smoothest possible transfer, configure everything in your new Loopia account before we point the domain to our name servers. That way your website and email keep working throughout the move.
If you already have a web hosting account with another provider, check their notice period and how to end your current subscription. Wait to terminate your previous account until it has been transferred to us, or until at least two to three weeks before the previous provider closes the account.
Order Loopia web hosting
If you do not yet have a web hosting account with us, you can order one here.
If you have more than one domain name to transfer, you can add the remaining domain names after you receive the login credentials for your web hosting account. See our guide on how to add more domain names to your web hosting account here.
Upload your website and create email accounts
You will find FTP settings in your web hosting account that you can use to upload your website. For email, see our guide on how to create email accounts here.
It is very important that you upload your website files and create your email addresses in your Loopia account before we transfer the domain name from your current provider. Otherwise, your website or email may become unavailable during the switch.
Point the domain to Loopia’s name servers
Finally, the domain name needs to be redirected to our name servers, which directs internet traffic to our servers instead of your old provider’s. A redirection normally takes about a day for the new DNS (domain name system) information to spread across the internet. During that time, email can reach both your old provider and us, but no messages should be lost as long as the account at your previous provider is still active.
