Some antivirus software, such as Norton Antivirus, cannot handle broken (incorrectly formatted) email messages. If your mail client freezes when you check your email, turn off the virus filtering temporarily, retrieve the broken email and delete it, and then activate the virus filtering again.
You can also use the webmail to remove broken email messages.
