Forum software on Loopia hosting (phpBB and SMF)

Forum software such as phpBB (bulletin board software) and SMF (Simple Machines Forum) can be installed on Loopia hosting and works on our UNIX platform. This guide lists the supported forum applications and their database requirements.

Note that we are unable to provide support for third-party products. That means we cannot give in-depth support when it comes to design changes and errors.

phpBB

phpBB is a free, open-source forum (bulletin board) software written in PHP. You can download phpBB here.

  • We recommend our UNIX platform for this, but Windows will also work.
  • On UNIX it requires a MySQL database.
  • On Windows you can choose between MySQL (recommended) and Microsoft Access via DSN.
  • Note that the Access database option limits the number of simultaneous visitors you can have on your forum.

SMF (Simple Machines Forum)

SMF (Simple Machines Forum) is another popular open-source forum platform. You can download SMF here.

  • Tested on both our UNIX and Windows platforms.
  • Requires a MySQL database.
