A page’s publishing path is the last part of the URL visitors land on when they reach the page. For example, if your site’s URL structure is www.example.com/page1, the publishing path is “/page1“. Loopia Sitebuilder sets publishing paths automatically from page names, but you can change them in the page’s settings to improve your SEO.
Why the publishing path matters for SEO
The publishing path makes your URL more SEO-friendly. If your page title is Summer events and attractions in London, you might choose the publishing path /london-events.
URL length is an important SEO factor – there’s a strong link between shorter URLs and higher search rankings. Google is working to shorten or even hide URLs in the browser, and a very long URL can look suspicious and put people off clicking. Publishing paths can also be used to organise pages in several languages.
Setting a publishing path for your page
- Click Pages in the top bar in Loopia Sitebuilder to open the Page Manager.
- Find the page and click its gear icon.
- In the Page name section of the General tab, find the publishing path field.
- Type the publishing path you want for the page.
- Click Submit and publish your site to apply the change.
Language-specific publishing paths
When you create a multilingual site, you can customise publishing paths to reflect your site’s structure. For example, to group all English-language pages:
- /en/home
- /en/about
