Search engine optimisation (SEO) of your pages helps Google and other search engines find and evaluate your content, so it can appear in response to a user’s search. The more relevant your content is to the query, the higher your page ranks in search engine results pages (SERPs). Loopia Sitebuilder gives you plenty of tools to maximise each page’s SEO.
Opening a page’s SEO settings
All of a page’s SEO settings are gathered in one tab, where you can add a search-friendly title, description and tags for each page:
- In the editor, click Pages in the top bar to open the Page Manager.
- Click the gear icon next to the page you want to manage.
- In the next window, go to the SEO tab.
- Fill in the title tag, meta description and meta keywords fields using the recommendations below.
- Click Submit to save your changes.
Adding an SEO-friendly page title (title tag)
By default, Loopia Sitebuilder uses the page name as the title tag – for example “Home”, “About us” or “Services” – and Same as page name is ticked. It’s a good idea to give each page a unique title to stand out from competitors in search results.
Untick Same as page name to enable the title tag field and add a search-optimised title. Keep it between 50 and 60 characters – search engines cut off longer titles.
Tip: make sure your title accurately describes the page content, and use your most important keywords. Avoid special characters (including “, /, | and &), since some search engines may cut off text after them.
Adding an SEO-friendly page description
The meta description is a short summary of the page’s content, and it also appears in search results. Write a unique description in the Meta description field, keeping it between 50 and 160 characters – search engines cut off longer descriptions.
Tip: remove all non-alphanumeric characters, including quotation marks, from your meta descriptions.
Adding meta keywords
Meta keywords (also called meta tags) give search engines extra information about your site. They don’t directly affect your ranking, but they support your title and description with relevant keywords.
Type relevant keywords in the Meta keywords field – single words or phrases. Press comma to add a keyword and move on to the next, or click the x next to a keyword to remove it.
Tip: don’t spam or overuse the meta keywords field – hundreds of keywords won’t help you rank higher.
Remember to click Submit once you’ve added your title, description and keywords.
Hiding the page from search results
If you need to hide a page from search engine indexing, tick Hide page from search results in the SEO tab, then click Submit.
