A favicon – also known as a browser icon – is the small image shown in the browser tab next to your site’s name. The term is short for “favorites icon”. You’ll also see it in the browser’s address bar, in bookmarks and favourites lists, in the browser’s dropdown of suggested URLs, and on a mobile device’s home screen when someone saves a link to your site.
Creating a favicon
There are two ways to create a favicon:
- Use an online favicon generator – many of them also generate app icons for iOS, Android and Windows devices.
- Create your own 32 × 32 pixel image, for example the first letter of your business name or a simplified version of your logo.
Remember that a favicon is a very small image. Avoid too much detail – a blurry favicon is worse than no favicon at all.
Adding a favicon
- Click the Main menu icon in the top-left corner of Sitebuilder.
- Click Settings in the sidebar.
- On the General tab in Website settings, find the Favicon section.
- Click Choose file and select your favicon file on your device, then click Open. The favicon is added.
- Click Submit to confirm, and publish your site to make the change visible.
Your favicon now appears in visitors’ browser tabs and bookmarks.
Note: the image should be 32 × 32 pixels with either 8-bit or 24-bit colour, in PNG, GIF or ICO format.
