DNS editor: A and CNAME

In order to create a A or CNAME link but wanting to keep the email settings with us then you can link them through our DNS editor. This you will find in your customer zone by clicking on the domain name in question and the blue button “DNS editor“.

In the DNS editor you will find among other things two sub domains with the name “@” and “www”. These are called “naked domains” which means domain without “www” (or other sub domains” respective with “www” (ex. www.mydomain.com)

Change of value in existing DNS records

In order to change existing A links to another IP address then the easiest way is to click on the IP address and write in the new one and then click on “save”. The same you can do with replacing an existing CNAME link to another CNAME.

Change of type of link

If you want to replace a A record with a CNAME record or the other way around then you first need to remove the existing record (you do that by clicking on the red button with “delete” on it to your right).

Then click on the blue button with “add a new record” on it (to your right under the sub domain name. Following guidelines are applied:

Type: Here you choose which type of address you want to connect to. If you want to connect it to a IP address (Cifer serie) then the type has to be “A”. If you want to connect to another host name (domain name) choose “CNAME” for the head domain (ex. mydomian.com) but only for the sub domains (ex. subdomain.mydomain.com). This is due to the rules for how the DNS installation is specified.

TTL: Here you would normally write 3600 or if you have more connections on the sub domain then the same TTL as above of it.

Data: Here you write inn the address that your domain name should connect to. This can be a IP address if you have chosen the “type” to be “A” or it can be a host name if you have chosen CNAME in “type”.

Done!

Afterwards is just the matter of waiting for the connection to go through. This can take some minutes or hours all depending on which TTL value you chose (which means how many seconds) that you have set to install on the domain or sub domain in question.

A assumption is also that our name servers are used for the domains.
