What is IPv6?

The protocol IP (Internet Protocol) is one of the basic protocols for Internet communication. In the current situation is the most common version of the IP protocol version 4, called IPv4.

IPv4 was specified in the early eighties and is not aligned with how Internet use is today. Among other things offers the protocol “just” about four billion IP addresses, which in recent times caused a lot of problems.

The successor to IPv4 is IPv6 who among other things offers a much larger address space and better management of services such as television broadcasts and similar. The introduction of IPv6 has been slow as several techniques been developed to better utilize the limited address space in IPv4.

Loopia currently supports IPv6 in our network, for our own website and for all customer zones. Going forward, of course, support for IPv6 to be enabled for all customers’ websites.
