Animations on your website can help create the right mood and make your site more visually appealing. Used well, animation helps your site stand out and highlights your key business messages. In Loopia Sitebuilder you can add eye-catching animated .gif backgrounds in just a few minutes.
Before you start
There are plenty of good animated .gif files to download online – for example from Giphy, Gifer or AnimatedImages. If you want a completely unique background, create your own with GIF tools such as Ezgif, MotionElements or Vista Create.
Adding an animated background image
You can only add an animated background to blocks that have a background image, such as the Headline block and the Call to action block.
- Hover over the block where you want the animated background to activate its control panel.
- Click the Edit image icon, a shortcut to the Appearance tab. You can also click Block settings → Appearance.
- Click Replace image and choose Upload a file from the dropdown menu.
- Find an animated .gif file on your computer and select it. It’s resized automatically and uploaded as the background.
Note: the maximum size of a single GIF file depends on your Sitebuilder package: 5 MB per file with Small, 100 MB with Medium and 250 MB with Large. Last checked: 2026-09-30. If you need to upload a larger file, you can upgrade to a bigger package.
If your animated GIF doesn’t fit the frame perfectly, adjust its placement with the Crop tool. You can also resize it, change the focal point and add an overlay.

Can I add a video background to a page?
Video backgrounds aren’t supported yet – the feature is in development. As an alternative, you can add an animated .gif as a background image. You can convert your video file (MP4, WebM, AVI, MPEG, FLV, MOV, 3GP or other format) to .gif using free tools such as Ezgif, Giphy or Convertio. Once you have your .gif file, you can create your new background.
