Linking downloadable files is as easy as creating regular links. When a visitor clicks the link, the file either downloads to their computer or opens in a new tab – useful for application forms, e-books, presentations, price lists and restaurant menus.
Linking a downloadable file
- Select the word or phrase you want to turn into a link and click the link icon in the text’s control panel.
- In the Link settings window, choose Download a file as the click action from the dropdown.
- Click Choose a file and find the file you want to link on your device.
- Click Open, and the file is uploaded to your site.
- Choose whether visitors download the file to their device or open it in a new tab. Download on computer is selected by default – choose Open in a new tab to change it.
- Optionally, use Set Download URL to give the file its own address.
- Change the link title in the Title field if needed.
- Click Submit to confirm, then Publish in the top right of Sitebuilder to publish the changes.
Replacing the downloadable file
- Click the link, then the link icon in the text’s control panel.
- In Link settings, click the file name or Choose file to pick a different file on your computer. Click Open to upload it.
- Once the new file is added, click Submit, then Publish.
Removing a download link
To remove a downloadable file, delete the link by clicking Delete link in the Link settings window. Then click Submit and Publish to confirm.
File size and formats
The maximum file size depends on your Sitebuilder package. Files in any format can be linked; the most common are PDF (.pdf), Microsoft Word (.docx), JPEG (.jpg), ZIP archives (.zip), PNG (.png) and Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx).
