Clear your browser’s cache when a website looks outdated, shows old content after an update, or a login page behaves oddly, by following the steps for your browser below.
Why clear the cache
Browsers save (cache) copies of pages, images and scripts locally so that sites load faster on repeat visits. This is usually helpful, but it occasionally means you see an old version of a page even after it has changed on the server \u2013 for example right after we help you restore a website, or after you update your own site.
Google Chrome
- Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Delete browsing data (or press Ctrl+Shift+Delete on Windows, Cmd+Shift+Delete on Mac).
- Choose a time range, or select All time to be thorough.
- Tick Cached images and files. You can leave the other boxes unticked if you only want to clear the cache.
- Click Delete data.
Mozilla Firefox
- Click the menu button (three horizontal lines) and select Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Security and scroll to Cookies and Site Data.
- Click Clear Data, tick Cached Web Content, and click Clear.
Safari (macOS)
- Open the Safari menu and select Settings, then the Advanced tab, and tick Show features for web developers if the Develop menu isn’t already visible.
- Open the Develop menu in the menu bar and select Empty Caches.
Microsoft Edge
- Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Settings.
- Go to Privacy, search, and services and click Choose what to clear under Clear browsing data.
- Tick Cached images and files and click Clear now.
Quick alternative: a hard reload
If you only need to bypass the cache for one page rather than clearing it everywhere, reload the page while holding Ctrl (Windows/Linux) or Cmd (Mac) together with the reload button, or press Ctrl+F5 (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac).
Still seeing the old version?
If the page still looks outdated after clearing your browser cache, the delay may be on our end instead \u2013 for example while a DNS change or an SSL certificate propagates. See change of name servers for typical propagation times, or contact support@loopia.com if the problem continues.
