SSL is available if you want to encrypt traffic between your web server and your MariaDB database with us – for example if your website is hosted elsewhere but your MariaDB database is with Loopia.
Encryption isn’t needed if your website is also hosted with Loopia, since traffic then stays inside our internal network.
Verifying the connection
If you want to verify the connection between your server and the database, you can download our self-signed CA (Certificate Authority) certificate from the Loopia Customer Zone.
To connect using SSL:mysql -h sXXX.loopia.se -u username -p --ssl
To verify the certificate:mysql -h sXXX.loopia.se -u username -p --ssl --ssl-ca=Loopia-DB-CA.crt --ssl-verify-server-cert
Checking whether SSL is in use
Once connected and authenticated, run:
SHOW SESSION STATUS LIKE 'Ssl_cipher';
If the “Ssl_cipher” field is empty, SSL is not being used. If a cipher is shown, the connection is encrypted.
