The most common problem when a CGI script not works is that you have uploaded it through the binary mode in your FTP client and the script has Windows linefeeds (CRLF) instead of Unix linefeeds (LF) which is required for the script to work.
To fix this, configure your FTP client to upload the files in text mode and the FTP server will convert the line breaks automatically.
