FAQ Move to a new VPS platform

  • Whats changing?
    • New underlying technology. Our old VPS platform uses shared kernel, we are now switching to a platform based on OpenStack with full-fledged virtualization, now you will be able to run a docker and your own containers, kernel modules can be installed, and in the future, the new environment will enable features such as snapshots and custom backups, which we will prepare for you after the migration is complete.
IPv6 will be enabled by default on all new VPS instances.

  • What is the expected downtime during migration?
    • We expect it to be no longer than 30 minutes.

  • Will my VPS public IP address stay the same?
    • Yes. Your VPS IP address and hostname will remain the same.

  • Will my passwords change during migration?
    • No. However, you will not be able to change VPS root password. If you don’t know your root password, please change it to a strong unique password before automatic migration and keep it safe and hidden.

  • When will migration start?
    • The migration will start at different times for each VPS instance. We will send an email a couple of days before migration starts and an email just after migration was completed and your VPS was started again.

  • Will VPS resources stay the same?
    • Resource limits will stay the same for migrated VPS. Sometime after all VPS instances are migrated to the new platform, we will seamlessly increase RAM from 1GB to 2GB and CPU power will be doubled.
Please note that all new VPS instances will have more RAM and CPU power from the start. You can get increased performance if you choose to transfer to the new VPS platform on your own. Please contact Loopia support if you want to do the transfer manually.

  • Can I still be able to login to VPS from Loopia Customer Zone?
    • Yes. However, you will not be able to change VPS root password. If you don’t know your root password, please change it to a strong unique password before automatic migration and keep it safe and hidden.
